Ubee Interactive announces that it will enter the Taiwan OTT (over-the-top) video market with their OTT TV box “BANDOTT.” Partnering with distributor FL Net Taiwan, Ubee aims to play a significant role in the evolutionary phase of digital visual entertainment, helping to advance the OTT TV box to be regarded as a mainstream household essential. Following Taiwan, Ubee plans to focus on the Southeast Asia, Europe, and US markets.
OTT content such as Netflix and YouTube are among the largest sources of Internet streaming traffic in the US today. Paired with high-speed Internet services, OTT enables high-quality, personalized mobile viewing and TV Everywhere. As a result of the FCC’s Open Internet rule, or Net Neutrality, consumers will demand access to applications and content over improved broadband technology. Since 2014, Ubee has focused on developing an open Android OTT platform to support 4k ultra HD resolution applications.
Ubee sees tremendous potential for the OTT market. A forecast report by Digital TV Research indicates that Global OTT revenues will reach $13.72 billion in 2020. Subscription Video on Demand (SVoD) has dominated this revenue, and will reach $6.485 billion in 2020 (around 47% of the total OTT revenues). The report also predicted that the number of households using SVoD services will reach 55.66 million in 2020.
