MEO offers Wi-Fi 7 to its customers. It is one of the first in the world
May 27, 2024
MEO customers now have access to the new Fiber X7 router, developed by Altice Labs, through a pilot project for its customers, before the commercial launch.

MEO aims to make its customers' connectivity experience faster and more viable through the new Fiber X7 router. The operator is the first in Portugal to offer Wi-Fi 7 technology and is among the pioneers worldwide. Before commercial launch, MEO is offering its customers a pilot project to test the technology created at Altice Labs.

Users will have faster connection speeds for each device and will be able to connect more devices simultaneously to share the network. Whether watching 4K streaming movies or playing games, the operator says that latency will be reduced. Greater security, reliability and stability are combined with lower energy consumption when using Wi-Fi 7 technology.

The new router, designed and built by Altice Labs, was created for intensive wireless use, supporting immersive technologies such as real-time 8K video capability and access to cloud computing applications . The Fiber X7 router is integrated into the MEO Smart WiFi ecosystem, promising to deliver the maximum speed that XGS-PON technology supports. Even in congested environments, the router aims to offer greater coverage at home.

The operator is planning Wi-Fi sensing for the future, a possibility in which customers can monitor their home, office or family care facilities (children and the elderly) without additional equipment. This future standard will allow the parameterization and configuration of increasingly intelligent automation scenarios, as well as connected alarm systems at home.
